BURBANK, Calif. — The Walt Disney Company has named Adam Smith chairman of its streaming business, placing him over strategy and development across Disney’s global subscription-video services, advertising technology and emerging technology.

Smith moves into the position as Disney continues integrating its streaming platforms, programming and advertising systems. Joe Earley will take a new role focused on television franchises and content strategy.

The appointment puts one executive over an increasingly important combination of distribution, audience data, advertising and product development. Radio News Now will watch whether the structure changes how Disney packages local, sports and entertainment programming across its streaming services.
