Tieline is using IBC 2026 to introduce Gateway Nexus, a 32-channel hardware codec designed for broadcasters building high-density IP facilities without moving every critical function into software or the cloud.
The unit supports AES67, SMPTE ST 2110-30, ST 2022-7 redundancy, RAVENNA, Livewire and NMOS, with optional Dante connectivity. Tieline is positioning dedicated hardware as a predictable, low-latency option for studios, network operations and hosted broadcast environments.
The product is scheduled to debut at IBC, which opens September 11 in Amsterdam, according to IBC’s technical preview.
Hardware versus virtualized infrastructure
Broadcasters are increasingly asked to choose among purpose-built hardware, on-premises software and cloud services. Channel count alone does not settle that decision.
Dedicated equipment can offer predictable performance, controlled update schedules and a physical recovery path. Software and cloud systems can make capacity easier to expand and move. Each approach creates different dependencies involving power, networks, licensing, cybersecurity and vendor support.
Gateway Nexus is therefore most useful as the center of a practical ownership comparison rather than as another list of supported standards.
Questions for the IBC demonstration
- What is the base price and which interfaces require additional licensing?
- How does the unit recover from packet loss, path failure and loss of synchronization?
- Can it operate fully with equipment from competing manufacturers?
- How are remote administration and credentials secured?
- What does Tieline mean by hosted deployment for a hardware codec?
- Can configuration and routing data be exported for disaster recovery?
The advertised specifications remain manufacturer claims until the unit is demonstrated and evaluated in a mixed-vendor workflow. For stations planning a long-lived AoIP facility, reliability, interoperability and total ownership cost matter more than whether the newest device carries the longest feature list.
