CLEVELAND, Ohio — Telos Alliance says its Zephyr Connect SE codec is now shipping, giving broadcasters a compact hardware option for moving audio between studios, transmitter sites and other facilities.
The company announced availability October 5. The fanless unit includes two bidirectional stereo codecs and can expand to eight through additional licenses.
Telos says the system interoperates with its iPort HD gateway and Zephyr Connect virtual codec. Applications include studio-to-transmitter links, network distribution, connections to remote studios and streaming encoding when paired with a streaming server.
Evaluate the complete deployment
The manufacturer identifies native Livewire+ support. Its setup documentation also describes separate network connections for audio over Internet Protocol, or AoIP, and a wide-area network.
A shipping announcement establishes availability. It does not establish the cost of a complete link or demonstrate performance on a buyer’s own network.
Stations should request a quote covering the required endpoints, codec expansion, connectivity, installation, support and backup arrangements. A useful demonstration should include recovery after an interrupted network connection and restoration of saved configurations.
The Radio News Now question
What does the complete broadcast link cost—and what happens to the audio when the primary connection fails?
