WOODSTOCK, Illinois — Other World Computing has released SoftRAID 9 for macOS and Windows, adding dual-drive-failure protection aimed at media teams that need resilient local storage without moving every file into the cloud.
The software adds Redundant Array of Independent Disks 6 and 6+ configurations, commonly known as RAID 6, along with access to encrypted Apple File System volumes across Mac and Windows environments.
A dual-parity array can continue operating after two drive failures, an important safeguard for small newsrooms storing raw interviews, field video, graphics, airchecks and finished productions.
RAID is resilience—not a backup plan
No disk array substitutes for a separate offline or off-site copy. Accidental deletion, ransomware, fire, theft and controller failure can still affect every drive in the same enclosure.
Before adopting the software, teams should test rebuild time, performance during a degraded state, recovery on different hardware, alert delivery and whether every critical computer can read the protected volume.
SoftRAID 9 is priced at $149.99 for the first year and $79.99 for annual renewal. Performance and reliability claims should be independently tested under real newsroom workloads.
