CINCINNATI, OHIO — The E.W. Scripps Company has promoted Sean McGarvy to head of news, effective October 5.
McGarvy will oversee news and content strategy and standards across the Scripps News Group, bringing local television newsrooms, digital operations and the national Scripps News streaming service under a more unified approach.
He most recently served as senior director of digital news operations. His earlier Scripps positions included senior director of local news strategy and news director at WEWS in Cleveland. McGarvy also worked as assistant news director at KMGH in Denver.
The appointment comes as Scripps restructures its local-media leadership and attempts to distribute reporting more effectively across broadcast, streaming and digital platforms.
