Recharge Media is giving the familiar KGSR call letters a new role in Texas radio as it prepares to expand its CRUSH FM adult contemporary service.
Radio Online reported October 23 that the company secured KGSR-FM for its Junction, Texas, station, replacing the KCRQ-FM call sign. The report says Recharge holds a construction permit to relocate the station to Cherry Spring, approximately 75 miles west of Austin.
The planned service, CRUSH 103.3 FM, is expected in the first quarter of 2027 after the relocation. That is a projected launch, not confirmation that the new operation is on the air.
A regional programming identity
CRUSH FM’s existing service emphasizes the music, people and lifestyle of Texas Wine Country. Radio Online lists current listening options in Mason and Fredericksburg, through the Sun Radio app and online at Crushstream.com.
The call-letter change should not be confused with an announcement restoring the former Austin KGSR programming. The announced plan concerns CRUSH FM and its Hill Country expansion.
The Radio News Now question: How will the expanded service turn its regional identity into locally useful programming and relationships with area businesses and musicians?
