Fleetwood Mac’s history is heading to Apple TV in a documentary timed to the 50th anniversary of Rumours.
Apple announced October 22 that Fleetwood Mac: The Chain, directed by Frank Marshall, will premiere globally January 29, 2027. The company describes the film as fully authorized and says it combines archival material with new interviews.
The documentary brings together the voices and perspectives of Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. Apple’s description includes previously unseen footage; it does not mean every band member participated in a new interview.
An opportunity for music radio
For classic rock, classic hits and adult contemporary stations, the advance announcement offers time to build programming beyond a release-day mention.
Local concert memories, archival station interviews and conversations with programmers who played the records can connect a global music story to a station’s own audience. Listener recollections can add another layer, with dates and details checked before use.
The film is an authorized account. RNN’s coverage should distinguish the producers’ description from an independent review of the finished documentary.
The Radio News Now question: What can local radio contribute to this anniversary that listeners will not already find on a streaming platform?
