MS NOW is pairing its November 3 election coverage with digital programming that separates free viewing from member participation.

In its October 27 announcement, the network said Rachel Maddow will lead television coverage beginning at 6 p.m. Eastern. Ali Velshi’s behind-the-scenes Big Board stream, VelshiCast, will run on YouTube.

A separate three-hour Members Lounge question-and-answer stream is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Eastern. The network says everyone can watch that stream live on YouTube, TikTok, its website and app for election night, while interactive features remain exclusive to members. Its live blog and results pages will also be available without a paywall on Election Day and the following day.

The distinction matters for independent publishers considering memberships: access to reporting and access to a conversation need not be the same product. This plan offers an example to study, but it does not yet establish membership conversions, audience growth or the staffing cost of moderating live questions.
