SEATTLE, Washington — KEXP is directing listeners to a temporary web player after a power failure disrupted its normal website and mobile apps on October 30.

A notice on the station’s current homepage says its Seattle studios suffered a major power failure and that staff are working to restore services. The replacement page offers a live-audio player and lists 90.3 FM in Seattle and 92.7 FM in the San Francisco Bay Area as listening options.

GeekWire reported earlier Friday, citing KEXP communications director Dashel Schueler, that the station’s backup power system also failed. Schueler said the Bay Area signal had returned using equipment normally employed for remote broadcasts.

The station told GeekWire it reaches about 175,000 live-stream listeners weekly. That is an audience estimate, not a count of people disconnected during the outage.

In a 4 p.m. Pacific update on October 30, KEXP listed both FM broadcasts and its web stream as operating in limited form, with streaming also available through third-party services. Its mobile apps, real-time playlist and normal website remained unavailable. The station said it was still resolving the underlying power issue and gave no timetable for full restoration.
