iHeartRadio introduced Lite Mode on October 29, giving listeners a simpler route to familiar content within its mobile app.

According to the company’s announcement, the feature is available on iOS and Android. A toggle at the top of the homepage switches between the full app and a reduced interface with Presets, Recently Played and Local Radio alongside the content currently playing.

The change addresses two different listening tasks: exploring a catalog and returning to a station or personality the listener already knows. Users can switch back to the full interface when they want more browsing options.

For stations, the relevant question is whether listeners can find and start the intended stream with less effort. RNN has not independently tested the feature, and the announcement provides no measured reduction in navigation time or evidence of increased listening.

The release adds another practical angle to radio’s broader discoverability debate: making content available is only part of the job. The next reporting test is whether the controls help occasional users reach the station they intended to hear.
