LONDON, England — Independent podcast producer Goalhanger will bring its advertising sales operation fully in-house beginning January 2027, the company announced October 2.

Advertisers and agencies will work directly with its commercial team on partnerships across the The Rest Is… network and other programs. The proposed packages span audio, video, newsletters, social media, live events and branded content.

The change concerns advertising representation. Goalhanger says its shows will continue to be distributed through Spotify and other major platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music and YouTube.

For independent publishers, the significance is greater control over advertiser relationships and the ability to sell a campaign across several audience touchpoints rather than a standalone podcast spot.

That approach also creates obligations: production, fulfillment, measurement and collections must work across the package. A direct sales relationship does not automatically reduce the cost of delivering a campaign.

RNN’s question: What audience scale and operational capacity does a smaller publisher need before bringing advertising sales in-house becomes sustainable?
