Fans expecting to see Earth, Wind & Fire and Lionel Richie at San Francisco’s Chase Center on Thursday night were instead met with a last-minute announcement that the concert had been postponed because of a medical emergency involving a member of Earth, Wind & Fire.
The announcement came just minutes before the scheduled 7:30 p.m. show, after thousands of concertgoers had already entered the arena. Officials said the performance will be rescheduled, and ticket holders can either use their tickets for the new date or request a refund through their original point of purchase.
The band has not officially identified the member involved or disclosed the nature of the medical emergency. However, several media outlets have reported that longtime drummer John Paris was hospitalized following an apparent cardiac-related incident. Those reports have not been confirmed by the band.
As of Friday afternoon, no additional tour dates have been canceled, and the tour is still scheduled to continue this weekend.
