MUNICH, Germany — ARRI and HONOR are extending their imaging partnership into the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max, bringing selected professional cinema tools to a smartphone.
ARRI’s September 28 announcement identifies LogC3 recording, its Wide Gamut 3 color space, preview looks and 10-bit 4:2:2 recording. The phone also includes a directional microphone and supports optional production accessories.
The device launches initially in China. ARRI says HONOR will provide further market, pricing and availability information; the announcement does not establish U.S. availability.
The reporting test is the workflow
For field journalists, the useful question is whether footage and sound move reliably from capture to editing under real reporting conditions.
Color-management tools can help a production workflow, but they do not establish how a phone performs during a long interview, in extreme heat or with an external microphone.
Any newsroom evaluation should test sustained recording, low-light interviews, audio monitoring and editing compatibility before treating cinema branding as proof of field readiness.
