BALTIMORE, Md. — Amelia is concluding a 30-year broadcasting career that included 23 years at WIYY/98 Rock, ending a run built across nearly every daypart at the station she grew up listening to.
Her path began in college radio at KRUX in Las Cruces, New Mexico, followed by paid work in White Rock and Taos, New Mexico, and additional stops before she reached 98 Rock as a part-time personality in the late 1990s. She joined the station full time in 2003 and ultimately established herself in middays.
The longevity is notable in an industry where consolidation and centralized programming have made decades-long relationships between one personality, one station and one community increasingly uncommon.
Amelia has said she was drawn to the role of a music personality rather than the conventional morning-show path: playing records, attending concerts and maintaining a direct relationship with listeners who cared about the format.
THE NEXT CHAPTER
Her immediate plan is to travel in a camper, bringing the professional chapter to a close without ruling out the possibility that radio experience could reappear in another form.
