LOS ANGELES, California — Patrick Stewart, whose portrayal of Captain Jean-Luc Picard anchored Star Trek: The Next Generation, died Wednesday, October 28, at his home in Los Angeles. He was 86.
His family announced his death Thursday in a statement shared on his social media accounts, Reuters reported. The Associated Press separately reported confirmation from his spokesperson, Kelly Bush Novak.
Stewart played Picard for seven seasons of the television series and returned to the character in feature films and the streaming series Star Trek: Picard. His screen work also included Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men films.
Before those roles, Stewart built his career in classical theater, including work with the Royal Shakespeare Company. He was knighted in 2010 for services to drama.
