NEW YORK, New York — Spotify has renewed The Joe Rogan Experience in a multiyear agreement that keeps the audio company’s licensing and advertising-sales relationship with the most-listened-to podcast in the United States.
Spotify confirmed the multiyear renewal Thursday, October 8. Reuters reported that new episodes will continue to be released weekly on Spotify and other platforms rather than returning to exclusivity. Rogan said the Spotify partnership has been a strong fit and that he is pleased to continue it for years.
Neither Spotify nor Rogan publicly disclosed the financial terms. The Journal, citing people familiar with the agreement, reported that the renewal is similar to the previous deal, which carried an estimated earnout of $250 million. That valuation remains a media estimate, not a figure confirmed by either party.
The agreement matters beyond one program. Spotify retains the ability to sell advertising around a show with massive reach while Rogan keeps distribution across competing podcast platforms and YouTube. It reinforces the industry’s shift away from expensive platform exclusivity toward wider audience reach paired with centralized advertising sales.
The Journal said The Joe Rogan Experience has more than 18 million followers on Spotify and more than 21 million on YouTube. Edison Research has ranked it as the most-listened-to U.S. podcast throughout the firm’s tracking history.
Radio News Now question: Does this renewal confirm that podcast platforms now value advertising reach more than exclusivity—and should smaller publishers use the same wide-distribution strategy?
