Ernie Johnson will leave Inside the NBA after the 2026–27 season. NBA.com confirmed the announcement Wednesday.

Johnson plans to continue March Madness and other TNT and CBS projects, according to People’s reporting on his October 28 message. He described the preparation required for the show as becoming more challenging than enjoyable and said he wants more family time.

The distinction matters for viewers: this is a planned departure from a particular program, not an immediate end to his broadcasting career.

For programmers, the transition raises a broader question about ensemble shows. A host’s contribution includes pacing, listening and creating room for other personalities—not simply asking the next question. Replacing that role requires more than filling a chair.

RNN is not naming a successor or treating speculation about other panelists as a confirmed staffing announcement. Those decisions should be reported when the people involved or the program’s producers establish them.
