NBCUniversal Local has selected Chris Wayland to succeed Valari Staab as president, with the transition expected before the end of 2026.
The October 5 announcement follows Staab’s decision to retire after more than 46 years in local television.
Wayland currently leads NBC10 Boston, Telemundo Boston and NBC Sports Boston in Massachusetts. He joined NBCUniversal in 2019 and will work with Staab during the transition.
The appointment places a local-station executive in charge of the broader organization. The announcement does not specify an exact effective date.
