LONDON — Boom Rock is set to close at the end of September as Boom Radio redirects resources toward its main service and launches a £1 million marketing push.

The company says some Boom Rock presenters and programming elements will continue elsewhere within the group, while music associated with the service will also remain part of the broader Boom offering. Boom Light will continue operating.

The investment in the flagship Boom Radio brand includes television and social-media advertising. A new 30-second television spot is built from photographs submitted by listeners and uses artificial intelligence to animate selected images from the 1960s and 1970s.

The strategy reflects a familiar challenge for multi-brand audio operators: deciding when a specialist service adds enough audience and revenue to justify operating separately and when consolidation creates more value around a stronger core brand.
