CBS Television Stations says it has completed a three-year rollout of augmented- and virtual-reality news studios across 15 markets, extending a production approach developed at CBS Bay Area.
In its November 2 announcement, CBS said the facilities total more than 20,000 square feet of immersive news production space. The platform supports news, weather and sports storytelling.
CBS also announced election centers for November 3, designed to place presenters alongside interactive maps, three-dimensional graphics and election data. That announcement describes the intended coverage; it does not establish audience results or production performance.
The operational significance is reuse. A newsroom can build different presentations on an existing virtual-studio platform instead of treating election night as an isolated installation. That makes staffing, graphic accuracy and reliable operation relevant throughout the year.
For stations considering similar investments, the useful follow-up is how much preparation each segment requires, who checks the visualizations and what viewers see if the system fails. Completion of a studio rollout is a milestone, but those operating details determine its everyday value.
