Michael White, a longtime Capitol Records promotion professional remembered as a trusted and widely loved presence behind the scenes of the music industry, died following a heart attack on Wednesday, September 2, according to information shared with Radio News Now by a public-relations representative for the Living Legends Foundation.
White had experienced heart problems for several years. His family is planning a Celebration of Life, with arrangements expected after the necessary coroner and cremation paperwork is completed. Those details may take several weeks and will be announced when available.
A Career Behind the Music
Kevin Harewood, who served as general manager of Hush Productions, remembered first meeting White when White was Capitol Records’ West Region Urban Radio Promotion Representative.
That position brought White into regular contact with Hush Productions, whose Capitol roster included Melba Moore, Freddie Jackson, Meli’sa Morgan, Lillo Thomas and the Boogie Boys. Across his Capitol career, White was also associated with music involving Maze, Ashford & Simpson, Hammer, Peabo, BeBe and CeCe and other influential artists.
White’s work placed him at the critical intersection of artists, record labels and radio—one of the professionals whose relationships and judgment helped music reach programmers, audiences and the wider marketplace.

In his remembrance, Harewood described White as a calm and engaging presence who maintained an understated smile even in an industry frequently marked by pressure and chaos.
