KBLX-FM is moving Big Reid from afternoons into mornings alongside Freska as Connoisseur Media reshapes its Bay Area talent lineup.

Reid also gives up his evening shift on KMVQ-FM/99.7 NOW. He replaces Rudy Ortiz at KBLX, while the cluster has expanded duties for Morris Knight, Ileana Matzorkis and Richie Brown across its stations.

The personnel changes leave important questions about the open KBLX afternoon shift and KMVQ evening position, according to Radio Ink’s September 9 report.

A familiar voice moves into radio’s most demanding daypart

Morning radio is not simply an earlier version of an afternoon program. It requires a clear content structure, consistent live presence, immediate local information and a reason for listeners to return throughout the week.

Moving an established KBLX personality into mornings gives the station continuity. Reid already knows the music, audience and Bay Area. The test is whether that familiarity becomes a deeper daily relationship rather than a schedule change built around an existing name.

The decision also reflects a wider cluster strategy in which experienced personalities increasingly work across multiple brands and time periods. That can preserve recognizable talent, but it can also stretch preparation time and reduce the distinctiveness of each station if responsibilities become too broad.

What listeners should watch

  • Will the program be live for its complete morning schedule?
  • How much Bay Area news, community service and listener interaction will it contain?
  • Will KBLX hire a dedicated afternoon personality?
  • How will the station distribute interviews and original segments digitally?

KBLX has long occupied a distinctive position in Bay Area radio. The value of this move will be measured by the program listeners hear—not by the number of shifts management can cover with one talent bench.
