HEWITT, New Jersey — Organizers say more than 700 college radio stations in over 50 countries will participate in World College Radio Day on Friday, October 2.
The 16th annual celebration uses the theme “HOPE—Always in the Air!” Singer-songwriter Andy Grammer serves as its ambassador.
A one-hour broadcast special features Grammer, Jake Bugg, girlband!, Northern Sky and Allison Russell. Participating stations can use the interviews and performances as part of their own programming.
The event draws attention to student broadcasting as both a creative outlet and a training ground. Campus stations give emerging presenters, music programmers and engineers opportunities to work with real audiences.
For independent artists, college radio can also provide exposure beyond commercially established playlists. Participation in the celebration does not guarantee airplay, however, and artists should follow each station’s submission policies.
RNN’s strongest follow-up is to examine what participating stations actually provide students: live shifts, production training, editorial responsibility and contact with their communities.
