Circle City Broadcasting has reached a multiyear carriage agreement with DIRECTV covering three Indianapolis television stations, ending a lengthy impasse while leaving two channel launches still to come.
The agreement, announced November 6, covers DIRECTV, AT&T U-verse and DIRECTV STREAM. WRTV is already available, while WISH-TV and WNDY-TV are expected to join the platforms in the coming weeks, according to Radio & Television Business Report.
The distinction matters for viewers: a signed agreement does not mean every station has already returned to the channel guide. Specific launch dates for WISH and WNDY were not given in the announcement reviewed by RNN.
WISH and WNDY had been absent from DIRECTV platforms for nearly seven years. Circle City owner, president and CEO DuJuan McCoy described the agreement as a milestone for viewers and advertising partners.
For the stations, the immediate task is communicating availability clearly. Promoting the agreement and confirming that viewers can actually receive each channel are separate steps; the latter will determine when the promised expansion in access becomes useful to audiences.
