Bitcentral launched Fusion MediaShare on October 27, offering station groups a cloud service for finding and moving material between newsrooms without replacing their existing Core News operations.

According to the company’s announcement, journalists can search and preview content through a browser or newsroom computer system plug-in. Sources can include connected station systems, archives, Fusion repositories and compatible third-party services.

Selected material is then delivered into the receiving newsroom’s workflow. Bitcentral says the service is available now.

Making existing reporting easier to use

The operational problem is familiar: another newsroom may have the right footage, but a producer must first locate it and arrange a transfer before deadline. A common discovery layer could reduce that work and make archived reporting more useful during a developing story.

Those benefits remain vendor claims; RNN has not independently tested the product. The launch announcement does not provide public pricing or measured newsroom time savings.

What stations should test

A useful evaluation should follow one real story from search to air. Can staff confirm who owns a clip and where it may be used? Does the receiving system preserve captions, source information and restrictions? What happens if a corrected version arrives after another station has downloaded the original?

Those questions matter as much as transfer speed. Shared access alone does not establish permission to republish footage.

The launch joins a broader shift toward connected editorial systems. RNN recently reported on CBC/Radio-Canada’s move toward a common newsroom platform. For buyers, the next step is a demonstration using their own systems, accompanied by a complete integration and operating-cost estimate.
